Old School & Disco House: Disco Doesn't Die

Disco Doesn’t Die - and we’ll prove it.

The fusion of old school disco and house music is one that will eternally keep us grooving.

Disco house music is a sub-genre of electronic dance music that draws inspiration from the disco music of the 1970s, 80s, and 90’s. It incorporates the funky, groovy, and soulful elements of disco while evolving them with contemporary electronic production techniques.

Some of the key features that make disco house music so damn addicting are the fact that it samples all the oldies and revives them. Many disco house tracks sample or remix classic disco songs from artists like Chic, Donna Summer, Madonna, or The Bee Gees. These samples are usually reworked into a more modern and danceable sound that appeals to today’s music community.

As time goes on, our technology advances - making it evident that electronic music must also evolve. One thing the EDM community can agree to disagree on is that old school and disco house music are everlasting. The music that was made in the 80's into 90’s is a genre that can simply never be replicated. The lyrics, the talented artists, their vocals, everything.

How can we agree on this? Well, just take a look at the prevalence and existence of disco house music in today's day and age. There are numerous artists who curate their entire style and sound around the unforgettable disco era.

Let’s dive in.

Dombresky

Dombresky is a French electronic music producer and DJ. He is known for his groovy contributions to the house scene. Dombresky gained recognition in the electronic music world for his unique style that incorporates elements of house, bass, and tech house, resulting in a sound that is both energetic and innovative.

Dombresky has also performed at major music festivals and clubs around the world, further establishing his presence in the electronic music scene. His music is characterized by its catchy melodies, groovy basslines, and a fusion of different electronic music subgenres, making him a notable figure in the modern electronic dance music landscape.

Just recently, Dombresky has given us his alter ego, ‘Disco Dom’, where he plays his sets wearing a bedazzled disco ball bucket hat. A part of being an artist is experimenting and ultimately finding a unique sound that distinguishes themselves from the rest. Disco Dom is doing a fantastic job and we cannot wait to see what else Dom has in store for us.

Purple Disco Machine

Purple Disco Machine is the stage name of Tino Piontek, a German DJ and electronic music producer known for his contributions to the disco and house music scene. He has gained international recognition for his funky style that draws inspiration from classic disco while infusing modern electronic elements.

Purple Disco Machine's music often features funky bass lines, soulful vocals, and a combination of disco and house rhythms. He's known for creating tracks with an infectious and danceable energy, making his music a favorite among club-goers and electronic music enthusiasts.

Purple Disco Machine is not only notorious for revamping the oldies, but making them sound even better than the originals (shhh, don’t tell anyone we said that)

Some tracks that Purple Disco Machine has remixed and revived are:

  • At Night - Shakedown (Purple Disco Machine Remix)

  • Don’t You Want Me - The Human League (Purple Disco Machine Remix)

  • Feel My Needs- WEISS (Purple Disco Machine Remix)

There’s plenty more disco to go around. There’s a reason he’s called Purple Disco MACHINE. He is a music machine - literally

Just this summer, Gou’s musical career has absolutely taken off due to her track “(It Goes Like) Nanana”. This track alone took the world by storm. This track was being circulated in clubs worldwide on any and every day of the week.

By revamping these classic disco tracks with evolved electronic elements, his music is able to appeal to all demographics. Those who grew up with a fond love for old school disco music and those who are avid house music lovers.

Some of his best tracks that truly demonstrate his disco side are:

LF SYSTEM

Scottish DJ duo, LF SYSTEM, has taken the world by storm with their innovative and disco-full sound.

The track that truly sparked it all was “Afraid To Feel”. This track topped many charts in 2022. The track was inspired by the original song “I Can't Stop (Turning You On)" from the 1970s soul band Silk's album Midnight Dancer.

These two truly understand the power that disco music holds and they show it through their own musical production. Their tracks feature the soulful vocals that instantly take us back to the 80’s and 90’s. Just listen to “Hungry (For Love)”.

LF SYSTEM’s music is able to take us down memory lane - evoking both the feelings of nostalgia from the disco era and the evolved house music era.

The popularity of disco house has fluctuated over the years, but it has consistently been a sub-genre of choice for DJs and music producers looking to infuse their sets with a retro, feel-good vibe. It's a genre that often evokes a sense of nostalgia while keeping the dance floor energy high.

We are avid house music lovers, but before there was house, there was disco. We can only love and appreciate house music as much as we can old school and disco music.
